Refurbished St Edmunds community site enhances local health and care services

Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to announce the reopening of its newly refurbished St Edmunds community site in Torquay.

Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to announce the reopening of its newly refurbished St Edmunds community site in Torquay. The refreshed facility in Victoria Park Road provides a modern, welcoming environment for the many health and care teams based there, enabling them to better support people across Torbay and South Devon.

The refurbishment, which started in December 2024 and was completed in March 2025, was made possible thanks to £478,000 of capital funding from the trust’s Capital Departmental Expenditure Limit (CDEL). The funding has transformed the site’s group activity and meeting rooms, helping to enhance the space for community use and group-based health and wellbeing activities such as, baby massage groups, developing toddler sessions, parenting groups, talk and play sessions, feed and nurture groups and antenatal classes.

The community site now includes improved clinical rooms and upgraded working spaces, new toilet facilities and kitchens and a new infant feeding space for staff and visitors. These enhancements have created bright spaces that have boosted staff morale and enabled the teams to provide new services. Thanks to the extra space registrars, speech and language and community paediatric bladder and bowel clinics now run from St Edmunds.

Teams operating from St Edmunds include:

  • Emergency Duty Services (EDS)
  • Healthy Lifestyles Team
  • Personalised Care Team (HOPE)
  • Carers Aid (Voluntary sector)
  • Out of Hours Community Nurses
  • 0–19 Service, including school nurses, health visitors, and Action for Children
  • Specialist nurses, including Parkinson’s, Epilepsy and Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) services
  • Podiatry
  • Children’s Learning Disability Team
  • Discharge Hub, staffed by both NHS and Devon County Council professionals
  • Reablement Team
  • Rapid Response Team
  • Under 65 Mental Health Team

Bringing these services under one roof will support more joined-up and person-centred care for people of all ages, closer to home.

Joe Teape, Chief Executive of Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, said:

"We are thrilled to reopen St Edmunds following its refurbishment. This work represents an important investment in our community and the people we support. Creating new high-quality spaces means our people can continue to deliver outstanding care, and we are grateful to all those involved. Thank you to the teams based at St Edmunds for their flexibility in moving workspaces while the works were taking place.

“St Edmunds is a fantastic example of how we are bringing teams together to provide integrated services."

St Edmunds community site is open Monday – Friday from 9am to 5pm. More information on the services and activities can be found here St. Edmunds Family Hub - Family Hub
