Key highlights from the report
- Engagement & Reach:
- 445 people shared health/care feedback; 21,000+ visited the HWDPT website.
- Over 100,000 social media views and 5,000 email bulletin views.
- 290 people received support via contact centre; 110 concerns escalated to authorities.
- Key Issues Raised:
- Majority of feedback concerned Primary Care (GPs, dental, pharmacy).
- Other major concerns included hospital treatment, access, and communication.
- Highlighted Impact:
- Unpaid Carers Report led to dementia training and influenced national policy.
- Co-designed complaints process now used by University Hospitals Plymouth.
- Public input helped shape NHS Devon's 10-Year Health Plan.
- Engagement Projects:
- Care Home Lay Visiting resumed in Plymouth (“Something Someone Told Me” project).
- Community events across Devon, Torbay, and Plymouth included health fairs and drop-ins.
- National Healthwatch News:
- Reports released on ADHD diagnosis delays, opticians’ cost barriers, and pharmacy funding.
- Major Changes Ahead:
- Government-commissioned review recommends disbanding local Healthwatch in its current form.
- Functions to be integrated into NHS and Local Authority structures.
- HWDPT committed to ensuring community voices remain central during this transition.
- Looking Ahead:
- Upcoming reports on vaccination uptake, MS, and reasonable adjustments.
- More community drop-ins and outreach planned across all regions.
